Fran Menconi is putting a 20-year buying binge behind her.

The Tinley Park, Ill., woman, who said her spending sprees “bordered on the ridiculous,” is cleaning out her closets and putting racks of size 12 clothes and accessories in a consignment store. Bargains abound: 200 pairs of earrings at 50 cents each, silk blouses at $15 apiece, 100 scarves and piles of other duds.

Said Menconi: “When I felt happy, I’d buy something; when I felt sad, I’d buy something. And sometimes I’d buy something just because my closet was such a mess and I couldn’t find anything.”
