Role of Media and Law Lecture Slated
“The Role of the Media, the Law and the Future” will be the subject of a speech Sunday at 4:30 p.m. by Washington lawyer Bruce I. Yamashita at the Pasadena Star-News, 525 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena.
Yamashita, 37, spent nearly five years arguing that the Marine Corps unjustly dismissed him from Officer Candidate School in 1989 on the grounds of racism. He received his commission as Captain in the Marine Corps Reserves on Jan. 4.
In 1991, after initially denying Yamashita’s claim of discrimination, the Marines issued a formal apology after an inquiry confirmed incidents of racial harassment.
Sponsored by the Asian American Journalists Assn., his talk will be preceded by a wine-and-cheese reception.
