Youngsters Pick Their Musical Favorites

Gee. You mean Raffi didn’t make the list?

Here are some of the hottest music acts of 1993, according to more than 8,500 readers, ages 6 to 14, who responded to Disney Adventures magazine’s annual survey:

Favorite female singer--Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Wynonna Judd and Whitney Houston. Favorite male singer--Jon Secada, Joey Lawrence, Garth Brooks, Michael Jackson. Favorite Group--Boyz II Men, En Vogue, Kris Kross, and tying for fourth place, Aerosmith and SWV.

Other runners-up include Spin Doctors, Soul Asylum, Dr. Dre and Billy Ray Cyrus.

On a Different Note: If you’re looking for a quality bilingual children’s recording, check out “Fiesta Musical--A Musical Adventure Through Latin America in English and Spanish,” set for release by Music for Little People Records/Warner Bros. Records on March 6.

Aimed at ages 3 to 8 and narrated by “Sesame Street” regular Emilio Delgado (he plays Luis), the album features top Latin musicians performing traditional and original songs from seven Latin American countries. Before each song, Delgado introduces key words in English and Spanish. The album will be available on audio cassette, CD and in a book/tape format. Information: (800) 727-2233.

Not for Adults Only: Kids can make a mask, mime a mime or soak up a story at “The 12th annual Artists’ Salute to Black History Month,” an exhibition of works by artists of African descent continuing at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza through Sunday.

The event includes a wide range of free activities for children led by actors, artists, teachers and professional children’s entertainers.
