SAN FERNANDO VALLEY : 4 Unlicensed Contractors Arrested in Spot Check
Police separately arrested four unlicensed contractors in the San Fernando Valley on Thursday in the department’s first post-quake crackdown on illegal construction activity.
Police said Daniel Gonzales, 37, of Reseda; Juan Ortiz, 35, of South Gate; Agustine Serrano, 33, of Canoga Park, and Jose Flores, 27, of Sylmar were each charged with one felony count of contracting without a license in a declared disaster area. If convicted, the men face a maximum sentence of up to 16 months in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
The men were arrested during a spot check of residential construction activity in Granada Hills and Porter Ranch. Lt. Ken Welty of the LAPD’s fraud unit said more random licensing checks are planned.
