COSTA MESA : Council to Consider Raising Service Fees

Share

The City Council tonight will consider taking the first step toward raising some fees for police and fire service. At issue is whether to hold a public hearing to talk about the fees.

The council this year will consider raising public safety, community services, administration and development services fees. The fees, proposed for the 1994-95 fiscal year, would not increase above the costs to the city of providing service.

The proposed public safety fees include raising both a taxi driver or solicitor’s permit from $15 to $60, raising a police false-alarm response for residents from $25 to $145, and raising a fire false-alarm for residents from $25 to $125.

The council will also consider whether to award $44,444 to a Huntington Beach roofing company to repair a portion of the roof at the Rea Community Center, 661 Hamilton St. The Costa Mesa Civic Playhouse, the March of Dimes and the Boys & Girls Club use the building.

The council will also weigh whether to pay for the repair of the roof at the Girls Inc. building at 1815 Anaheim Ave.

The council awarded $9,600 two years ago to the organization to purchase gym equipment for a planned expansion. But the expansion fell through, and now Girls Inc. will ask to use the same money for roof repairs.
