Centralia School District’s newest school, and the first with a year-round schedule, will be dedicated Friday.

The 10 a.m. ceremony will be held in the multipurpose room at Centralia School, 195 N. Western Ave., at the corner of Western and Lincoln avenues.

Tours of the school, which opened in August, will be available while classes are in session before the dedication ceremony.

About 600 students in kindergarten through sixth grade attend the school, the site of the old Centralia School built in 1936. That school closed in 1981 because of the district’s declining enrollment.

The district then decided to rebuild to relieve overcrowding in three schools: Walter Knott, G.H. Dysinger and Danbrook.

Centralia School has teachers at the same grade level working in teams, an effective approach used in the district’s summer academy program, officials said.

The school has a media center, computer lab and art and science room.
