VENTURA : Owner of RV Park Files for Bankruptcy

Share

The corporation that owns the Ventura Beach RV Resort has filed for protection from its creditors under Chapter 11 of the U. S. Bankruptcy Code.

Nancy Hubbard, who manages the corporation, said Hubbard Family Corp. filed for bankruptcy protection Jan. 6. She declined further comment.

Filing Chapter 11 gives a company a chance to reorganize its finances with the goal of emerging from bankruptcy.

Staff members said the RV park will continue to operate as usual.

The 19-acre park, which sits at the mouth of the Ventura River, was flooded by storms two years ago. Dozens of recreational vehicles were damaged or destroyed because park visitors were not evacuated in time.

In the wake of the storms, Hubbard paid the county Flood Control District $5,000 for installing a rain and stream gauge along the river, and $1,800 for new topographic maps of the area.

But five months after the agreement was signed, county officials terminated the pact, citing liability concerns.

Hubbard is negotiating with city officials to share weather information from a private contractor.
