It wasn’t easy, but Harper Phillips finally made the U.S. Alpine team for the Winter Olympics.

Phillips was the 22nd and final selection, although not among the skiers named Sunday when the U.S. team was announced.

Phillips, of Waitsfield, Vt., had mathematically earned the last spot based on qualifying criteria, but could have been bumped in favor of teammate Daron Rahlves had the latter won a giant slalom Sunday in Rossland, Canada.

Until the race in British Columbia was completed, Phillips had to sweat it out.

Rahlves was leading the GS at one point, but could not hold on, cinching the spot for Phillips.

To avoid further price-gouging, Norway’s Ministry of Government Administration announced that it was freezing prices on lodging, food and beverages in the Lillehammer area during the Winter Olympics.

The government said in a statement that establishments cannot receive more for services than were charged Monday. The freeze will be in effect until Feb. 27.

The government intervened, according to the statement, to “prevent an undesirable rise in prices which might hurt Norway’s reputation as a tourist country.”
