IBM to Make Chips Designed by Unisys: The two fierce competitors in the making and selling of mid-size and large computers said they reached a deal for International Business Machines to manufacture chips designed by Unisys Corp. The chips will be used in mainframe-class “servers,” which supply and process data for networks of personal computers. The complementary metal oxide semiconductor, or CMOS, chips are the same kind that run PCs. Unisys is moving to CMOS from a technology called emitted coupler logic, an older chip design.
