$25,000 Grant Goes to Aid the Rebuilding of Shelter

Ocean Park Community Center received a $25,000 grant from the McDonnell Douglas Employees Community Fund to be used toward renovating a building in Santa Monica. The money follows the loss of the center’s Turning Point Shelter for the homeless in the earthquake.

United Jewish Fund raised more than $3.5 million at its Feb. 13 Major Gifts Gala at the Four Seasons Hotel. UJF is the fund-raising arm of the Jewish Federation Council of Greater Los Angeles. The federation is the central planning, coordinating and fund-raising organization for 16 agencies providing health, education, welfare and social services on a non-sectarian basis. Harriet Hochman was general campaign chair.

Museum of Contemporary Art will be the recipient of $16,000 raised at the Feb. 5 “Une Nuit Fauve” (A Wild Night) gala at the Twin Palms Pasadena restaurant. It was hosted by the MOCA Contemporaries, a museum support group of young professionals.

Los Angeles Women’s Foundation will distribute a $100,000 gift from the Peter Norton Family Foundation to nonprofit agencies suffering damage from the Northridge earthquake.

Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles raised $188,000 at its first gala benefit on Jan. 15 at the Beverly Hilton. Arthur Laub was honoree. Jewish Family Service provides services to the elderly, people with AIDS, families in crisis, children with chronic disabilities and others in need.

Children’s Cancer Research Fund will receive $5,000, profits of the Feb. 5 grand opening celebration party of the Pacific Athletic Club/Pacific Health Center. More than 900 guests attended.
