LILLEHAMMER, Norway — Lyubov Egorova tied the record for gold medals in the Winter Olympics here Monday when she won her sixth, skiing the clinching anchor leg for Russia in the women’s 20-kilometer cross-country relay.
The medal was Egorova’s third gold here and she won three in France at the 1992 Albertville Games. She tied Soviet speedskater Lydia Skoblikova, who won her six in 1960 and ’64.
Egorova has won gold or silver in every Olympic event she has skied and will try to break the record Thursday in the 30k classical. Besides three golds here, she won a silver in the first of the women’s races, the 15k freestyle.
