BREA : Children’s Bureau Seeks Foster Parents

Share

Residents, especially those who speak Spanish, are being sought to become foster parents.

The Children’s Bureau of Southern California is recruiting people to act as parents to needy children and is holding a foster parent orientation meeting March 16 for those interested. The 7 p.m. meeting will be at the Brea Senior Center, at the corner of Elm Street and Sievers Avenue.

Recent reports show that more children are being abused and neglected, making foster families more necessary, said Sandy Sladen, director of community services for the Children’s Bureau.

“Children need foster family settings to live in rather than in institutions,” she said.

Requirements for becoming foster parents, Sladen said, include making an adequate income, having enough room in the home for a child and being in good health. In addition, foster parents cannot have criminal records and must have a desire to help children, she said. For more information, call the Children’s Bureau at (714) 385-9025.
