MOORPARK : Volunteers Sought to Replant Channel

Share

The Moorpark branch of the Environmental Coalition and the city of Moorpark are looking for volunteers to help restore a stretch of the Arroyo Simi flood-control channel today and on March 5.

Volunteers are needed to help replant native vegetation in the channel between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. both days, coalition officials said in a prepared release.

On Feb. 19, 40 people helped plant more than 550 cuttings, and 10 of the volunteers won commemorative T-shirts while others were awarded prizes donated by local merchants. Coalition officials hope to plant more than 1,000 cuttings on each of the two remaining Saturdays.

Anyone who wants to participate should show up at the Teledyne Laars parking lot at 6000 Condor Drive in Moorpark. Those wishing to help are asked to bring hand clippers or pruning shears, and sharp pocket knives or heavy-duty loppers. Hand-held sledgehammers also are needed, and volunteers should wear long pants, work gloves, sunscreen, sunglasses and sturdy shoes that probably will get wet.

For more information or to volunteer, call Roseann Mikos at 529-4828 or Karen Rosenblum at 529-8904.
