NEXT STAR: Retiring County Supervisor Ed Edelman shouldn’t be out of the spotlight for too long. Who knows? The next stop might be the Hollywood Walk of Fame. After all, ex-San Fernando Valley City Councilman Ernani Bernardi, who blew the sax for Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey, recently got a star. (B1).. . . Edelman, who loves the cello, has sat in with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.

LOSING PATTERN: CSUN’s baseball team (4-7) these days is starting to make a habit of losing tight games to highly ranked teams. The latest example was Friday, when the Matadors lost 5-4 to sixth-ranked Oklahoma State. . . . Coach Bill Kernen keeps hoping players will think big against top teams: “We have to believe we belong in the same neighborhood.” (C16)

TIME TO HEAL: The quake inflicted serious damage on our collective psyche. Well, after six weeks of soul-searching, the Valley can continue the difficult healing process: quake-damaged Nordstrom, above, reopens today. “It will make people feel better to know that their store is coming back,” said a Topanga Plaza spokeswoman. . . . Meanwhile, 105 of the mall’s 130 specialty stores are back in business.

TIME TO HEAL II: Sometime this weekend, Universal Studios will put the earthquake ride back on its regular tour. The attraction has been closed since Jan. 17 because the studio has not felt it was appropriate. . . . Now it is. “Our thoughts are still with those affected by the quake,” a Universal official said, “but we feel many people want to get on with their lives.”

HOLD THE MAG: All the news, however, is not so uplifting. Valley Magazine, which had to stop publication because of quake damage, won’t hit the stands again until summer.. . . But for those hungering for tips on top eateries, rest assured that the magazine will publish its annual restaurant guide issue this year.
