Jim Murray Challenges the Wimp Factor in L.A.

I agree with Jim Murray (“Is L.A. Too Wimpy to Build New Stadium?” Feb. 22). Whatever happened to the movers and shakers? In L.A., the movers are moving and the shakers are quaking.

We should applaud Jim Murray once again for writing an insightful column critical to L.A.’s sports future and the city’s economic health in general.

Other cities have built state-of-the-art facilities in recent years that have left L.A. and the Coliseum behind. It is time for L.A. to reawaken and build a new facility while preserving the character of the old.

Jim Murray asks if L.A. is too wimpy to build a new stadium. A better question would be, “Is L.A. stupid enough to tear down the most beautiful and historic football stadium in the country?”

The Coliseum has been a grand and glorious venue for many of the most exciting and dramatic moments in sports history. And now, with recent improvements, it’s a much better spectator stadium than ever before.

Why use earthquake damage as an excuse to make still another major--and final--Coliseum blunder? We’ve made enough already over the past 40 years.

Let’s do it. Let’s build a new Coliseum. And like San Diego, let’s call it Jim Murray Stadium.
