DOWNEY : Downey Schools Ban Smoking in All Areas
Downey schools have joined a growing number of Southeast-area districts that have banned smoking on all district-owned property.
The Downey Unified District school board has decided to ban smoking and use of other tobacco products on all campuses, at sporting events and in district vehicles, effective July, 1996. Currently employees are permitted to light up in some areas.
The ban will be accompanied by an anti-smoking campaign to help staff members who want to quit.
Similar smoking bans have been approved in Paramount and ABC school districts.
