PREP ROUNDUP : Lee’s Late Birdies Lead Valencia to Victory Over Servite

John Lee birdied the last three holes to give Valencia a 414-415 victory over Servite in an 18-hole nonleague match that concluded Thursday at Alta Vista Country Club in Placentia.

The first round was held Tuesday at Hacienda Golf Club in La Habra Heights. Lee made a 15-foot putt on the final hole to give Valencia the victory. Lee and teammate James Wooley were paired on the second day of competition and both shot a one-under 35. Wooley had a two-day total of 75 and Lee shot 76.

In other nonleague golf:

Western 214, Catalina Avalon 274--Tiger Woods shot par 36 at Los Coyotes Country Club to lead Western (2-0).

Huntington Beach 396, Long Beach Millikan 410--Jeff Farley shot a four-over 76 for Huntington Beach in a match that was played at SeaCliff County Club and El Dorado golf course.

Trabuco Hills 199, Mission Viejo 224--Sophomore Jordan Woffinden shot one-over 37 for Trabuco Hills (2-0) at Coto de Caza. Mission Viejo drops to 1-2.

Capistrano Valley 207, Laguna Hills 229--Joe Burks shot one-over 36 for Capistrano Valley (3-0) at Marbella Country Club.

Edison 206, La Quinta 266--David Searle had two birdies and shot even-par 36 for Edison (2-0) at Mile Square Park.

In boys’ nonleague tennis:

Canyon 14 1/3, Esperanza 6 2/3--Junior Mark Hess won, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3, for Canyon (2-0).

Foothill 12 2/3, Estancia 8 1/3--The No. 1 doubles team of Mike Penn and Nathan Griset swept, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0, for Foothill (3-1).

Woodbridge 12, Fountain Valley 9--Johnny Biorkman and Reza Farokhpay both swept their sets for Woodbridge (1-0).

El Modena 15 2/3, Santiago 5 1/3--The No. 2 doubles team of Tommy Ha and Jeremy Kaye swept, 6-0, 6-2, 6-1, for El Modena (2-0).

In nonleague boys’ track and field:

El Modena 81, University 54--Brett Daeley won the 100 meters (11.1), the 200 (23.1) and the long jump (19-9 1/2) for host El Modena (1-0).

Brea-Olinda 87, Fullerton 39, Whittier La Serna 20--Brett Saari took first in the 800 (2:13), 1,600 (4:53.9) and the 3,200 (10:40.8) for Brea-Olinda (2-0).

In nonleague girls’ track:

Corona del Mar 61, San Clemente 54, Lakewood St. Joseph 11--Corona del Mar (1-0) swept the relay events in its season opener at San Clemente.

El Toro 75, Laguna Hills 53--Tiffany Boykin won the 200 (27.8) and 800 (2:24.1) for El Toro (1-0). Jill Holmes won the 100 hurdles (18.5) and 300 hurdles (51.6). Laguna Hills is 0-1.

In Garden Grove League boys’ swimming:

Pacifica 98, Garden Grove 66--Hee Chung won the 200 individual medley (2:25.0) and the 100 butterfly (1:06.55) for Pacifica, which also won the the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
