Michael Jordan made his much-awaited debut in a major league exhibition game for the Chicago White Sox at Sarasota, Fla., and in his only at-bat, chopped a ball back to the pitcher and was tagged out. He played four innings in a 9-0 loss to the Texas Rangers, and had only one play in right field, picking up a double and making a one-hop relay to the infield. . . . The Pittsburgh Pirates need an emergency bailout of $8 million during the next year to stay in business, Mayor Tom Murphy said.
