MRV Triples Its Profit in 4th Quarter

MRV Communications Inc., a Chatsworth manufacturer of semiconductor laser diodes and fiber-optic products used in communications networks, reported sharp increases in earnings and revenues for its fourth quarter and the year ended Dec. 31.

In the fourth quarter, MRV earned $317,000, up from the $95,000 in net income it reported a year ago. Its quarterly revenue grew by 89%, from $1.27 million to $2.39 million.

For all of 1993, the company had a profit of $839,000, a 50% gain from its $560,000 in earnings a year before. Its revenue rose 68%, from $4.42 million to $7.43 million.

MRV said the improved results reflected continued demand for, and reliance on, fiber-optic technology in communications markets.
