Safety Agency Looks at 1992-93 Saturns: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it is investigating reports of an alleged engine mount failure in the General Motors Corp. cars. A spokesman for the agency said the preliminary investigation was opened last Wednesday after the NHTSA received three reports of failures. “If, in fact, the engine mount fails, it might allow the engine to shift during braking or acceleration, and that allows the possibility that the throttle might be affected,” the spokesman said. A preliminary investigation, typically the lowest-level probe the NHTSA can launch, could lead to a safety recall. Or it could be closed if investigators fail to find evidence of a defect. There are about 200,000 of the cars on the road.
