USAir Seeks $1.5 Billion in Worker Concessions: The Arlington, Va.-based carrier is asking employees for wage and work-rule concessions of $500 million a year over three years as part of its effort to sharply curtail labor costs, according to sources familiar with the company’s plans. USAir Group announced Monday that it expects to lose more than $200 million in the first quarter of 1994 due to a combination of bad weather and intense competition from low-fare carriers such as Southwest Airlines and Continental Airlines’ CALite. At the same time, British Airways announced that it was suspending an agreement to invest more money in USAir.
