HAWAIIAN GARDENS : Drawing Planned for Low-Income Housing

Share

Dozens of low- and moderate-income families are expected to participate in a drawing for a chance to buy one of 11 new homes built by the city’s redevelopment agency.

Applications will be accepted until Friday, and the drawing will be late this month or early next month. About 180 people attended an orientation meeting last month, said City Administrator Nelson Oliva.

The income ceiling for a family of four is about $38,000. The homes, which have three bedrooms, a garage and at least two baths, will be sold for $150,000. The city will provide some financing to residents who qualify, Oliva said.

The 11 homes represent the first stage of an effort to provide housing for low- and moderate-income families. The city plans to have 50 homes built by next summer, Oliva said.
