ORANGE : City to Consider Televising Meetings
The City Council this week unanimously voted to place a proposal on next week’s agenda to televise meetings.
“I think it’s important that people who don’t have the opportunity to attend meetings have the chance to see what’s happening at City Hall,” said Councilman Mark Murphy, who introduced the cable topic at Tuesday’s meeting. “I’m hopeful cable is the way to do it.”
“I think it’s a great idea,” added Councilwoman Joanne Coontz.
Several similar proposals in past years have been rejected because the council couldn’t justify the expense.
Installing cable can cost as much as $25,000, and the council has had to take severe cost-cutting measures in the past two years because of the recent regionwide economic downturn.
