Sex Education

Share

* After reading articles on the rise in teen pregnancy, I’m having a hard time understanding why some parents object to sex education in schools. These parents argue that education on such matters should be done at home, not by a teacher in a sex education class, because that would promote the idea that having sex is OK. Wake up! As a 17-year-old girl, I don’t see sex education as a green light to have sex. People who object to sex education in schools are so far removed from school age that they have no idea what’s going on. Do they imagine a girl exclaiming:

“They’re teaching sex ed at school now, I guess it’s OK to have sex. You know, I’ve been dying to get pregnant. Picture it, I gain 30 pounds, throw up every morning, get too fat for all of my clothes and miss the prom. Now that the school has OKd sex, I can finally realize my dream.” I think not.
