Brandel Chamblee patiently played his way through a gusty 30-m.p.h. wind and established a two-stroke lead against more experienced contenders Saturday in the third round of the Honda Classic at Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Chamblee, who shared the lead through the first two rounds, shot a one-over-par 72 as he sought his first victory in an erratic, five-season career on the PGA Tour.

His 54-hole total was six-under 207 going into today’s final round. Davis Love III shot a 70 and was second at 209.

Bruce Lietzke, who had a 74, was tied for third at 210 with two-time U.S. Open winner Curtis Strange, Nick Price and Australia’s Craig Parry, who played about an hour in front of the other contenders and got his 69 before the winds reached full strength.

John Daly, coming off a four-month suspension, was at 212 after a 73.

Jim Albus extended his lead to three strokes in the Vantage at The Dominion PGA Seniors in San Antonio, shooting a five-under-par 67 in the second round.

Albus, who tied for 18th in the tournament last year, was at 135. He led by one stroke Friday after a 68.

George Archer and Gibby Gilbert were at 138. Gilbert had eight birdies, tying Albus and Australian Graham Marsh for the round’s best score of 67.

Gay Brewer won his second consecutive title in the Vantage Classics, played by golfers over 60. He parred the extra hole to win a playoff with Orville Moody.

Donna Andrews was having a bad round at Ping-Welch’s Championship in Tucson until she rescued her lead with an eagle on the last hole.

Andrews had three consecutive bogeys at the midpoint, but her eagle three on the 458-yard 18th hole--her third eagle in as many rounds--helped her to a three-under-par 69 and a three-shot lead over Brandie Burton.

Andrews is at 13-under 203.

First-day leader Michelle Estill shot her way back into contention with a 68, landing in third at 207.
