PLATFORM : Why Back Reform?

What does creating a national health system have to do with me?

Because I’m frightened of what our market system health care may do to deny needed care to my children and grandchildren. Because of what long-term illness could do to impoverish my wife and myself, as it did to my two widowed aunts.

Because, today, my loved ones can be denied treatment at emergency facilitiies that have been closed or packed by the emergencies of children, women and men who can’t afford more economical preventive primary care.

Because of what marketing health care is doing to 37 million Americans without insurance.

Because I fear the reappearance of tuberculosis and other once-conquered diseases.

Because of what soaring health costs are doing to undermine American business in an interdependent world market.

Finally, I fear what the growing health crisis and its denial are doing to our economy, our democracy and to our people.
