FDA Reschedules Meeting on Calgene’s Tomato: The food and drug agency will meet with a subcommittee of its Food Advisory Committee on April 6-8 to discuss the process it has followed in reviewing Calgene’s Flavr Savr brand tomato. The meeting was postponed from last Wednesday and Thursday. The tomato, designed for more flavor and a longer shelf life, is expected to be the first genetically engineered food to be marketed. The FDA said it expects a decision on the tomato itself soon.
