3D Systems Reports 4th-Quarter Profits

3D Systems Corp., a Valencia-based maker of machines that combine lasers, chemicals and a computer to rapidly manufacture plastic-like models of industrial parts and other products, reported fourth-quarter and annual profits after year-earlier losses.

The company attributed the improved results to its cost management, increased efficiency and a more profitable mix of products sold.

In the fourth quarter, 3D earned $1.45 million, in contrast to a loss of $1.5 million a year before. Its quarterly revenue rose 41%, to $8.63 million from $6.14 million.

3D’s 1993 profit was $530,717, while its revenue for the year increased 20%, to $31.1 million. In 1992, the company lost $2.77 million on $26 million in revenue.
