Mexico to Take Bids to Operate 16 Cargo Terminals: The government will begin taking the bids within two months as part of an effort to privatize the country’s ports, according to Port Authority President Jaime Corredor. The concessions are for six major cargo terminals on Mexico’s Pacific Coast and 10 terminals along the Gulf Coast, Corredor told reporters at a privatization conference. Corredor said Mexico is targeting private international port service companies with either the expertise, technology or capital to operate the terminals. Foreign or domestic companies that have the know-how but little capital will have access to “enhanced credit” standing either through loan guarantees or other financial assistance from the Nacional Financiera, a development bank, said Jose Angel Gurria, the bank’s chief executive.
