GARDEN GROVE : School District Gets $16,728 Rebate Check

Garden Grove Unified School District officials say that conservation pays, and they have got rebate checks totaling almost $17,000 to prove it.

During a brief presentation earlier this month, officials described the district’s electricity conservation efforts and how they expect to save $65,000 a year. On top of that, they said, the district has received rebate checks from Southern California Edison totaling $16,728 for their cooperation in reducing energy consumption.

During the presentation, officials from Southern California Edison awarded plaques for each of the 10 district sites that installed energy-saving equipment including more efficient air conditioning and lighting.

Ken Calkins, assistant superintendent for administrative services, said that the district would use the money from the rebates and savings to pay for more energy conservation measures.

He said: “We’re going to do as much of this as we can now that we know how to do it.”
