Ingram Micro Gets Aid From N.Y. to Expand East Coast Operations

Ingram Micro Inc. said Wednesday that it has won a $1.8-million aid package from New York state to help the company pay for a $9-million expansion of its Eastern operations center outside Buffalo.

New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, who joined corporate executives at Ingram’s plant in Amherst, N.Y., to announce the aid package, said that Ingram’s decision to expand its current facility rather than move to another state shows that the state’s efforts to attract and keep businesses are working.

Up to 600 new jobs are expected to be created over the next three years as Ingram adds 90,000 square feet of office space to its existing 50,000-square-foot structure. The company expects to break ground for construction within 10 days.

The Santa Ana-based company, the world’s largest distributor of microcomputer products, needs additional space on the East Coast to accommodate its continuing growth. It had been looking at several states in which to erect a new facility.
