BAKU, Azerbaijan —
A remote-controlled bomb exploded in a crowded Baku subway station Saturday, killing at least 12 people, authorities said.
The device exploded midafternoon as a train pulled in, witnesses said. It ripped off the roof of the first car.
Azerbaijan has been fighting a six-year war with neighboring Armenia over the disputed enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh. It also has been gripped by internal political strife, and the government cracked down earlier this month on opposition groups.
