POSTSCRIPT
The Mexican drug wars continue: In late December, Edwin Bustillos, the environmental and human rights activist featured in “The Drug Lords Vs. the Tarahumara” (by Alan Weisman, Jan. 9) was severely beaten by five men, including two Mexican police officers, outside of Chihuahua City. The officers were jailed for several hours and released.
Several weeks after the story appeared, federal and state attorneys general issued warrants for the arrests of as many as 75 people, including Artemio Fontes (also featured in the article), on charges ranging from drug trafficking to murder. As of early this month, there had been no arrests.
