Michigan, Wal-Mart Settle Advertising Complaint: Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has settled the latest in a series of charges over the fairness of its prices and advertising, agreeing to change signs that three Michigan competitors claimed were misleading. The nation’s No. 1 retailer reached the agreement with state Atty. Gen. Frank Kelley. Kelley had threatened to sue the Bentonville, Ark., retailer after complaints last year by Kmart Corp. and Target Stores, along with Meijer Inc., a Michigan retailer. Wal-Mart agreed to change the way it compares prices with other stores and to update price comparisons weekly, Kelley said. Wal-Mart didn’t admit any guilt and won’t pay any fines.
