Music: MCA Music’s UNI Distribution Corp. has won a hotly contested bidding contest among the major music companies to domestically distribute Miami-based Rodven Records, one of the nation’s top Latin music labels. The deal represents MCA’s first move into the fast-growing Latin music field. Rodven, a Venezuelan-owned label whose roster includes artists such as Los Fantasmas del Caribe, Los Fugitvos, Maggie Carles and Little Joe, has about 10% of the $150-million Latin market in the United States. The move is expected to boost Rodven’s album sales significantly by putting its products for the first time in major music retail chains. Zach Horowitz, MCA Music Entertainment Group executive vice president, confirmed that MCA also plans to form a Latino music division soon and is planning a major push shortly into the South American market.
