3D Systems Reports $1.5 Million Profit

3D Systems Corp., a Valencia maker of machines that combine lasers, chemicals and a computer to rapidly manufacture plastic-like models of industrial parts and other products, reported a fourth quarter profit of $1.5 million on a 41% increase in revenue to $8.6 million.

In the same period a year earlier, 3D Systems lost $1.5 million on $6.1 million in revenue.

The company attributed the profit turnaround in the three months ended Dec. 31 to cost management and increased efficiencies because of a larger sales volume. The latest quarter’s results also included a currency exchange gain of $500,000 from the sale of its Japanese subsidiary.

For all of 1993, 3D reported a profit of $530,717, in contrast with a loss of $2.8 million in 1992. Its annual revenue grew 20%, to $31.1 million from $26 million a year before.
