A fund to help pay medical expenses has been established for Ashley Bethel, the 14-year-old Lake Forest track and field standout who lost her right eye when she was struck by a golf ball Feb. 23 at Saddleback College.

The Bethel family has paid about $13,000 for Ashley’s initial treatment and surgery to remove the eye and expects to incur another $5,000 in medical expenses to have a glass prosthesis implanted next month.

Bethel, a two-time national youth pentathlon champion, expects to return to Los Alisos School today.
