Crowe Selected as Envoy

WASHINGTON —
President Clinton has nominated retired Adm. William J. Crowe Jr. to be ambassador to Britain, the White House announced Tuesday. Crowe, 69, was chairman of the Pentagon’s Joint Chiefs of Staff until he retired in 1989.
