Ameritech to Cut 6,000 Jobs: The telecommunications company said it will slash the non-management jobs by the end of 1995. The job cuts, along with improvements in the pension plan, will result in a one-time after-tax charge of $335 million in the first quarter, the company said. Chicago-based Ameritech Corp. said that in determining pensions, it will add three years to the service of eligible non-management employees who leave their jobs by mid-1995.
