Bankruptcy Filings Fall in Fourth Quarter: Americans filed fewer bankruptcies from October through December than they have during any quarter in more than three years, the government said. The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts said the number of filings totaled 206,570, a 4.1% drop from the July-September period and the smallest number since 192,555 were recorded in the third quarter of 1990. The decline contributed to a 9.9% drop in bankruptcies for 1993, to 875,202 from 971,517 in 1992. Filings fell in each of the 12 judicial circuits.
