Dan Hartman; Music Producer Wrote for Film Soundtracks

Dan Hartman, 43, music producer, songwriter and singer who found success in film soundtracks. After growing up in Harrisburg, Pa., Hartman began his career as a bassist and singer with the Edgar Winter Group in the early 1970s. He later produced top-selling records for Tina Turner and James Brown, and earned a Grammy nomination for composing Brown’s hit “Living in America” for the film “Rocky IV.” Hartman recorded the highly successful “I Can Dream About You,” which he did for the film “Streets of Fire.” In 1985, he wrote and performed songs for soundtracks of three motion pictures--”Perfect” starring John Travolta and Jamie Lee Curtis, “Fletch” starring Chevy Chase, and “White Knights” starring Gregory Hines and Mikhail Baryshnikov. Hartman spent the past year working on a solo album of pop dance songs for Columbia Records. On March 22 in Westport, Conn., after a prolonged illness.
