PARAMOUNT : 2 School Officials Halt Efforts to Reclaim Jobs

Share

Two Paramount school officials who were placed on leave 16 months ago after being accused of mismanaging the district’s adult-school programs have abandoned efforts to get their jobs back.

Last week, the school board accepted the resignations of Ed Quesada, former director of the Paramount Adult Education Center, and Vice Principal Luther Martinez during a closed meeting, Supt. Michele Lawrence said.

Quesada and Martinez had been fighting for reinstatement since November, 1992, when the district placed them on unpaid leave after state auditors reported problems in the adult school’s record-keeping.

Both men have consistently denied that they mismanaged Paramount’s adult-school programs and have sued the district for wrongful termination. Quesada said he will now focus his efforts on getting a new job, and on his lawsuit against the district. The suit seeks unspecified damages, including back wages, Quesada said.

Martinez was not available for comment.
