The area chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is accepting registrations for the fifth annual MSWalks for Multiple Sclerosis, to be held in Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo on April 10.
The society’s Channel Islands chapter is also seeking volunteers to help conduct the walks, including assisting with check-in, driving safety vehicles and being part of a medical team.
Each of the routes will cover 15 kilometers--or 9.3 miles. The Ventura walk begins and ends at the Ventura Harbor Village. Same-day registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the event scheduled to start at 9 a.m. with aerobics and a continental breakfast.
Participants, who recruit pledges from friends, family and co-workers, must pay a $5 registration fee.
The area chapter will award two round-trip tickets to any destination in the United States to the volunteer who raises the largest amount of money. Any participant who raises $125 or more will also be eligible for a national drawing for a trip for two to Paris and other prizes.
Proceeds from the walk will help provide counseling, employment aid, medical equipment and other services for the society’s clients and their families.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling neurological disease of the central nervous system. About 300,000 Americans have it.
