Share

The Dunbar Economic Development Corp. is co-sponsoring a free six-month training course for entrepreneurs who live within the city’s enterprise zones.

The weekly classes teach low- to moderate-income men and women learn to expand their businesses. Professionals volunteer their expertise in areas such as sales, taxes and advertising.

Classes begin May 14 at Dunbar, 4225 S. Central Ave., and are limited to 30 people.

The program, co-sponsored by the California American Woman’s Entrepreneurial Development Corp. and the city, is funded through private and public grants.

“This program is different because we’re going right into the community, and we are working with Dunbar to help rebuild that area of the city,” said Patti Koltnow, a spokeswoman for the state women’s group.

“We will hope to not only bring in training, but for those who complete the program successfully, we hope to set up some type of access to capital through Dunbar and the Community Financial Resource Center.”

Applicants must live within the city, have operated their business for at least one year, and be grossing at least $35,000 a year.
