THOUSAND OAKS : Schools Seek Carts, Cameras for Security

Share

Efforts to increase security on the campuses of Thousand Oaks high schools may include the use of video cameras and golf carts, school officials said.

One of the golf carts, which will be used to better patrol the city’s four high school campuses, was donated by the city-owned Los Robles Golf Course.

Another golf cart already is being used at Thousand Oaks High School, and school officials said they were asking other local golf courses to donate used carts as well.

“This is an extremely big deal to us,” said Fred Van Leuven, director of secondary school education for the Conejo Valley Unified School District. “It shows the community is supporting safe schools.”

Van Leuven said the carts provide school officials with better access to the entire campus and allow them to respond more quickly to events on campus.

The schools are also searching for people to donate video cameras to the schools so crimes that occur on campus could be caught on film, Van Leuven said.

Crime on the city’s campuses includes theft and vandalism, he said.
