NO KEEPERS: If you like to fish...
NO KEEPERS: If you like to fish in any of the city lakes in Huntington Beach, it had better not be because you’re hungry. The city is considering a change to a “catch and release” policy: You can reel in all the fish you want, but you’ll have to throw them back. . . . City officials, who will vote on the issue Monday, say they can no longer afford to stock their lakes, and don’t want the supply to dwindle faster than the fish can “self-perpetuate.”
A FAN’S FAREWELL: Gus Contreras, owner of Costa Mesa’s Vendetta clothing store, is among those mourning Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain, who took his own life last week. Contreras met Cobain last year and got him to sign a poster. The witty Cobain, who’d never seen Vendetta’s, wrote: “Dig the store. Best of luck in the future and beyond.” . . . Recalls Contreras: “He was very cordial, almost shy.” After Cobain’s death, the poster was placed in the display window.
SHARI LIVE: If you have small children, you’re not alone if you plop them in front of public TV and let puppeteer Shari Lewis baby-sit them while you fix breakfast or get ready for work. Some youngsters will see Lewis and her Lamb Chop in person Monday when PacifiCare Health Systems in Cypress opens its new day-care center for employees’ children. Lewis will cut the ribbon and put on a show. . . . “She’s perfect for obvious reasons,” says a spokeswoman. It’s only the second corporate-sponsored day care to open in Orange County.
CENTURY CELEBRATING: It was 1894 when Dr. George Crook Clark built a house in downtown Fullerton for his new bride, Edith Johnson. It’s since been restored as the “Heritage House,” and moved to the Cal State Fullerton Arboretum. . . . Officials have big “re-enactment” plans to celebrate its century mark: A garden party in June, a tea/bridal shower in September and a Victorian wedding in December--plus a masked ball early next year. You can take a guided tour of the house Sundays 2 to 4 p.m.
