Times Mirror Makes Interactive Investment: The company said it has made a private equity investment in video game developer Digital Pictures Inc. as part of its efforts to gain a foothold in the fast-growing field of interactive media. The two firms plan a series of joint ventures, which will probably include interactive versions of Times Mirror-owned magazines and newspapers to be distributed on CD-ROM. Los Angeles-based Times Mirror Co. publishes the Los Angeles Times and has other media ventures. San Mateo, Calif.-based Digital Pictures was one of the first companies to develop a new generation of highly realistic-looking video games, using compression technology to incorporate live-action video into its products.
