DOWNTOWN : S. Korean Theater Troupe to Perform
The National Drama Company of Korea visits Los Angeles this week for a performance of the philosophical play “Pigo-jigo, Pigo-jigo” (“Bloom and Fade”). A portion of the proceeds will be donated to an earthquake relief fund.
The drama company, established in 1950, includes some of South Korea’s most respected actors.
“Pigo-jigo, Pigo-jigo,” written by Man-hee Lee and directed by Young-keol Kang, tells the story of three elderly men who ruminate on their lives, dreams and failures while robbing an ancient tomb.
The dialogue is in Korean, but an English summary of the story will be provided, said Chris Sim, president of Special Educational Tour & Events, the organization coordinating the troupe’s visit.
The play opens Friday at the Los Angeles Theatre Center, 514 S. Spring St., and runs through May 2. Show times are 7 p.m. Friday and May 2, and 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday and May 1. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door.
