The Last Rest Stop

Look past the rust, the decay.

These shells represent life stories. Maybe a nugget of gold secured that Dodge, and the townsfolk were envious of the majesty it spoke with its long frame and formidable grille. Or how the reward for a father’s long days in the mines of Benton, Calif., was a Sunday drive with the family in the new Model-T. Or the picnics attended, the fairs visited, the trips taken in the mighty 1915 Willys Overland. And what of the secrets left in the back of the 1931 Ford?

But the rusting, decaying shells also tell stories. Of flight and loss; riches gone and towns abandoned. Change and growth as swift as a gold rush. And as haunting as these ghosts of the past.
