SIMI VALLEY : Contract to Service Police Radios Studied

Share

The Simi Valley City Council will consider tonight a contract with a local company that would service the Police Department’s communication system, including all department radios.

Harris Communications, which has been taking care of the system since 1988, almost lost the contract last month after Motorola Communications & Electronics underbid the firm by $30,000.

The City Council eventually rejected Motorola’s bid of $124,689 after learning that the company could take up to five days to make repairs in an emergency. The city reopened the bidding, and Harris Communications undercut Motorola’s last offer by about $2,000.
